Online Trust Alliance Names GlobalSign a Top Trusted Website in its 2016 Honor Roll Report

Company recognized for commitment to online security, privacy and consumer protection practices for the fifth consecutive year

GMO GlobalSign (, a leading provider of identity and security solutions for the Internet of Everything (IoE), announced today that it has been recognized in the Online Trust Alliance (OTA) 2016 Honor Roll, an independent audit recognizing businesses with a demonstrated commitment to consumer safety and data protection. This marks the fifth consecutive year that GlobalSign has been recognized, further validating the company’s leadership in providing online trust and privacy.

Each year, the OTA conducts a comprehensive, independent audit of online websites and mobile apps to determine the adoption of online security and privacy best practices. Audits in the last year evaluated over 900 websites across multiple sectors, including Internet retailers, FDIC banks, the U.S. Federal Government, social networks, media/news websites, IoT manufacturers, presidential candidates, and OTA members.

“GlobalSign continues to show leadership in providing assurance to consumers and businesses that their transactions are secure and data kept private when communicating online,” said OTA Executive Director and President Craig Spiezle. “We appreciate GlobalSign’s active involvement in the OTA and recognize that the company takes data privacy and security seriously.”

It can be challenging to maintain consumer trust and confidence when each day brings another high-profile data breach. Adding to the challenge is the massive number of ‘things’ coming online as the Internet of Things (IoT) grows by the billions over the next few years. Large enterprises, cloud service providers, businesses and IoT developers taking advantage of public key infrastructure (PKI) and digital certificates from GlobalSign are able to improve their customers’ trust, ensure secure transactions, increase their brand image and boost the search rankings of their websites.

“Privacy and security continue to be major concerns for consumers and businesses of all sizes, however the ratio of websites secured by SSL is dramatically low,” said GlobalSign Vice President, Product Management Doug Beattie. “We are honored to be recognized by the OTA for the fifth consecutive year for our leadership in providing online trust. We support the OTA’s Audit and look forward to working collaboratively with them  and other industry leaders to ensure the data protection and privacy of online communications.”

Started in 2008 as an effort to drive adoption of best practices, the objectives of the Honor Roll are to:

1)      Recognize leadership and commitment to best practices which aid in the protection of online trust and confidence in online services,

2)      Enable businesses to enhance their security, data protection and privacy practices,

3)      Move from compliance to stewardship, demonstrating support of meaningful self-regulation, and

4)      Promote security & privacy as part of a company’s brand promise and value proposition.
